Default Custom Cable nightmare....

Wow, what a freakin hassle this has turned in to.

First off, Magnum's site and HD's stock measurements do not seem to match up. I measured the cables, then had the shop do it (want them to measure and order in case of a screw up, then it is on them). We were pretty close, but we obviously used the#'s from the HD Mechanic.

This where I am now, after they mistakenly ordered my stelath black cables in stock length the first time, back-ordered banjos, then they shipped from 2 different places (couple weeks), all for not as it had to be returned.

They are re-oredering straight from Magnum today (went through Drag first time), and going -4" from HD's stock measurement, which Magnum tels me is -10" from stock, wtf?. It was going to be about another $25 than what they had refunded me, then I found out from the lady at Magnum that my local dealer was not a partner and they could be saving a bunch. So, then I had to get the parts guy in contact with the lady at Magnum and get registered as a partner (why have they not done this)?

I am curious to see what kind of mark up my dealer puts on these after they get set up as a partner ( I know what the discounted price is, so they can't fool me).

I have also taken my bike over a few times, although they have not charged me a dime yet, said they want to make it right.

Am I doing too much leg work here? Anyone else have this kinda issues with custom length cables? They are not being uncool about it, actually quite the opposite. Is this rocket science?

No, i am not mechanically inclined.....

My +4" Magnum front brake line should arrive this afternoon.

I'm going to do a mock up install (have to wait for my speed bleeders to arrrive to do the full install) and measure things out, I'll let you know how it goes.

FWIW: I ordered directly from Magnum and if the length is way off, I'll be calling them and asking them to waive their $10 recut fee to make the line the correct length.

I AM mechanically inclined, which is why I do all this myself. A long time ago I got fed up with being at the mercy of service departments...so I do everything on my own now.

When I did my 10" Z bars, I ordered a 6 foot magnum universal black braided brake line kit with the banjo fittings and just cut it to fit(32"). No problems at all.

Ok, so the cable arrived and I did a quick mock up.

First the specs:

Magnum Black Pearl cable #46646 BP 60/60 46" DOT Brake line

Here are a set of pictures I just took, showing a mock up. I just zip tied it in place so you can see how the line works on the bike and where it ends up.

As I suspected, by getting the +4" cable, I have lots of room to maneuver it around.

In the pics, I have it adjusted for the 1.5" riser insert I intend to put under the factory riser.

I'll update again when my speed bleeders arrive and I can do the full install.

I've never used magnum but I have ordered from Barnett several times and everything is always perfect, of course you have to be able to use a tape measure and supply proper measurements to start with.
