Default Bulb acting possessed

Hey all, my 06 sporty recently had this problem regarding the normal beam. When I just started the bike, there would be no light at all, and if I'm lucky, turn the handlebar left and right while on stationary would do the trick and it would come on.

Sounds like a connection problem, but the high beam works all the time even though the low beam doesn't. And I'm only using one bulb. Check the connections twice, all seems fine.

What should I do? I can't be riding with high beam all the time? I'm thinking if I should replace the wires.

You need a young priest, and an old priest. Don't know what your problem would be, but since it acts different when you turn the bars, it sounds like something in the wire harness. On another note, I always ride with my high beam on during the day. Makes you more noticeable and saves your low beam lamp for night time use.

It always sems to be anti-social to ride using main beam. More likely IMHO to annoy other drivers, which is not the sort of 'noticable' I like to attract!

As for the funny bulb, most electrical problems are mechanical. The bulb works on both beams, so the wiring to it is being disturbed in some way. You may have an actual short somewhere, or when you turn the bars something pulls on the wiring. That can only happen in a small area around the bars and headlamp, so be patient and check things thoroughly.

If you mean "high beam" when you say "main beam" I will tell you this. In Texas it's the law - high beam by day, low beam by night. If it annoys other drivers, f_ _ _ 'em, it's served its purpose. No humble opinion - just fact.

Exactly. During daylight hours I really don't see how the high beam is annoying. I think the sun is a little brighter.

Give a new bulb a shot, first off. If you have a DVOM, test the wiring for a a short. A bulb is a basic circuit, there is a hot and a ground. If there is proper current, the bulb will light up, if the bulb is working properly. If not then it won't. Could be a break in the hot or ground causing the voltage not to ge to the bulb, could be a short to ground. There will be another wire that controls the high beam, if there is a problem with the low beam only, this is where you should start.

Bulb's working fine. High beam doesnt on by itself but high beam works and normal beam doesn't. Just checked the connection, the low beam works when I squeeze the wires. Think I'm gonna change new wires.
