My 1200C came with a battery tender. The book and the instruction mannual both say to disconnect and remove the batter before charging. I am new to the Harley Davidsons and am having the worst time locating the negative cable to disconnect the battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The battery tender I bought was the HD 750ma model. I also installed the HD quick-connect (buy separate) so all I have to do is connect the tender rather than take covers off. With the 1200 upgrade I'll need all the cranking amps I can get to start my Sportster on a cold morning.
Anyway, I can't find anywhere in the directions that says you have to remove the battery. If you're going to use the clips that come with the tender, connect the black (ground) lead to any clean engine part like the headbolt.
The battery shouldn't have to be removed in order to use the tender. Mine came with a seperate harness which stays attached to the battery when the bike is sitting and keeps it up to charge.
