Default 2001 sportster 1200 oil leak

so i just picked up a sportster and realized there is an oil leak. kind of a bummer as i over looked it when i bought the bike but hopefully it will be an easy/inexpensive fix.

it seems to be coming from the front cylinder on the left side, here are a few pictures...

Woz- not a big deal to fix.
In fear of sounding like a Manual ****- this would be a good time to buy one. It will pay for itself a few times over.
From the pics shown- looks like in addition to the rocker box leak, it appers to be leaking beween the head and cylinder as well. IMHO- I would suggest heading down to the stealer and grabbing a manual and a top-end gasket kit. The kit will allow you to do the complete jug. I, personally, have found the rocker boxes to be 80% of the job, so why not just do the whole thing and be done with it.?.? Also, from experience- do both jugs. Made the mistake of doing only one, and found myself diving back to do the other jug a couple weeks later.
One other thing- do you have a lift? If your knees are anything near as defective as mine- it will make this job MUCH easier.

Good call on the manual, no lift but at 23 my knees are good. Would this job be able to be done with the engine in the frame? (I'm sure the manual would tell me that but I don't want to wait until tomorrow to know)

Also it seems to be getting on the regulator/rectifier mounted on the front of the frame, how??

You can remove the rockers/heads with the engine in frame no problem. You'll have to remove the gas tank to make things easier on you, it's not a big deal.

It will get everywhere. When my rockers leaked it was everywhere from the regulator to the swingarm. Wind sheer is a neat effect.

P.S. You'll want a manual before completing this job. The head bolts and others have specific torques and tightening patterns. Mess it up and you'll have more of a problem than when you started.
