My book says that the slow jet is 42 delivered and the rejet should be 45. The 180 high jet is O.K. Somebody help me out here, is this correct? It doesn't make sense that the lean condition would be left as is?

I would guess that if you added pipes and a SE aircleaner you are lean. Just follow the instructions in Oldgeezer's link and you will be very close to perfect.

Regards,

Bill

UPDATE:

Took the bike to the dealer with a Dyno. They did not replace stock jets, just adjusted fuel/air mixture. Dyno showed 79HP and 81 Max Torque.

Anyone else searching for 1200 Roadster with SE high flow Air Cleaner and Vance & Hines Short Shots might find this info helpful.

Those are some impressive numbers! Most newer bikes do need the 45 slow jet, though. Stock high speed jetting is usually on the money. Damnit, I'm glad I have a carbed bike too. I would hate to be married to my Stealer every time I wanted to re-tune, like those poor folks with '07s.

Tuning an EFI bike is easier than messing with a carb. It's just a different game. Carb is mechanical, EFI is automated. Somehow all of us on here have made the communication switch from the Pony Express to the Internet. Would you prefer to still have telephones that weigh 30 pounds, are on a 5 party shared line, and a rotary dial that require a pretty strong forehand to dial??? Just need to learn the new game in town. If anyone has an 07 Sporty and hates the EFI, I'll trade ya even! Does electronic equipment ever need adjustment? Sure it does, but not nearly as often as mechanical.

If you have an EFI bike, and spend the time you save by not running the bike in the driveway to WARM UP by learning how to program the simple computer that runs the fuel system you'll be way ahead. Look at all the discussions on this forum about carb issues. Re-jet, what type, adjustments for altitude, precautions during idle times to prevent gumming up, and on and on and on. Trust me, the simple computer program to tweek an EFI system will take FAR less energy and LUCK than messing with a carb.

Granted, if the government (and tree huggers) would keep their nose outta things, the much more simple carb system would be great. But, in our ever increasing socialist society, the government has been empowered to stick their nose into everything. If you think mandated fuel injection on your bike is bad, just wait until they take over your healthcare.

Sorry for the rant, but it never fails....new improved techonology comes along, and the resistance to change is unbelieveable. I remember these same type of discussions when fuel injection initially appeared installed in cages. Well, many years ago, I needed to have several carborators worked on, tuned, cleaned, etc etc etc. I've never had a problem with a fuel injected system. Even my freekin Jeep (pretty basic hard knocks vehicle) has fuel injection.

Sorry, SportyPig, but I'll take a 5 second adjustment with a screwdriver over a $150. poke in the @ss from the Stealer any day. I'll bet Ive been messin with engines longer than you have been on this planet.

Well, I'm a bit of a Hillbilly also. And I was born on a pumpkin truck at night, but it wasn't LAST night. Just make another trip to the shine still, you'll be ok.

I second the above. We sometimes are just too comfortable with what we know as opposed to learning or adapting to something new. Resistance to change is normal behavior, but when that change is foisted on us by bureaucrats, the sting is doubly painful!

old geezer said it. pull the plugs and see with your own eyes. 5 minutes and no guesswork, no dealer. by the way, i started off with cycle shack slip ons and starting running lean immediately (plugs turned white). did the complete stage 1 and life is good (plugs are tan ) now there's more power, more fun, and it runs like a different bike.
stay safe
