It really doesnt matter what bike your riding you will get compliments. Non Riders see people on Bikes as fearless, big balled, cool guys. I have gotten complements on everything from my KX450F to my V-star 650(which was a pile of shyt) my CBR to my Sporty. We are just some bad *** mother phuckers, Thats all.
Sportsters are just beautiful bikes and because many of us change them to make them to our liking, they each are unique. I get compliments from guys in cars, or on bigger Twins and Metric cruisers. The more I make it the way I want it to be, the more compliments I receive.

I suppose that is partially true, But I get about 3 times as many compliments when I'm riding my Sporty versus the Geezer Glide.
<edit> Oh, and I forgot the most important part....I pickup a LOT more women when on the Sporty!!

I have a bad shoulder and got to the point where it was a pain (literally) to ride my Road King. Last month I sold the Road King and bought a Forty-Eight. I get a lot more "thumbs up" on the sporty than on the bagger.

looking at doing this myself....in need of a knee replacement in the not too distant future....maybe a roadster... carbed model in 2004-2005 range.....
Could be allot of riders who wouldn't be caught dead on a Harley see this as a not so "Harley" Harley. Mine gets looks, lots of comments, people asking if I want to trade etc... as folks don't see many Harley s In Israel. I believe many of the rice rocket riders secretly want one but due to peer pressure would never admit it! All they need to see is a burnout!
Point is its a cool bike, no doubt. for a Harley's, an entry level bike, something to give you the feel of Harley, kind of an in-between heavy bikes and rockets, a good choice (IMO) for those wanting the feel of a real bike without the heavy expense, and something you can turn around in the driveway.
Yeah the Sportys just have a great look and timeless lines-they look like a classic no matter what year they are. I have not had one person say my bike does not look great and when I fire it up and take off they are impressed on the sound and power.
