one really great advantage of the mikuni over the cv is that when you close the throttle on the mikuni, it gives far superior motor braking. and the accelerator pump on the mikuni is really a pumper too. joe minton used to write for american rider magazine and he has a realistic way to mod the cv 40, and it can be made to work great. to do it again, knowing the tricks of the cv, i'd mod the cv. a 1988 sportster needle, knocking out the dummy plug so you can adjust the idle mixture, are just a couple of the tricks, along with jetting that will really wake up a cv. they're a good carb and easy to work on. and
Emwolb, I've been through this CV from top to bottom. Aftermarket needle, emulsion tube, Pilot jet, removed the plug for the idle adjustment of course, lighter diaphragm spring, and on and on.
Well, just got the Mikuni today and got it installed. Bike fired right up, I set the idle and took it for a ride. All I can say is WOW!! Throttle response is MUCH better and I didn't even touch the jetting yet. I've got a Dyna single fire ignition coming Monday, so after I get that installed, I'll mess with the jets. Comes pretty well tuned right out of the box though.
