^^^I might. thanks guys! that was the plan initially anyway. I wanted to see what it looked like next to the throttle and I honestly thought it would look worse. might just run it like that for now. i do have to take some metal off the the inside of the lever where it meets the brake banjo to make room for the biltwell throttle perch. I guess I'm just trying to avoid the time it will take to make it look "right" should I grind that lip off. Who knows. I could always leave that for later too after everything is buttoned up and go back to it. I just want to get this thing running right now.
I do have a question though, the clutch side has a little switch that I think is used for the dummy lights and only serves one purpose that I can see and that's the neutral light on the dummy light console. Is that correct? I think I may just have to close that circuit and do away with it like I did the off/run switch because there's no way to make it work outside of those hideous h-d control pods I just did away with.
also, anyone have any experience with banjo brake switches? if i want my rear lights to light up when i pull the front brake lever i'm gonna need one. for now i'm content with scrubbing the back brake to make the lights work which I do all the time anyway. curious if anyone has installed one though and how easy/hard it may have been. thanks.

See how it looks once bolted up but I have a feeling you'll hate the lip. I probably have 2-3 hours of time into chopping the set that I have and I probably still have a little more to go. I've been highly considering a new set of bars(diggin the Zombie Performance Bendalicious bars).
That switch is probably a clutch position switch. If it indeed is what I think it is that's what allows the bike to know the clutch is engaged when you're trying to start it in gear instead of neutral. I know on my atv I bypassed it by just hooking the two wires together, just be mindful because doing so will likely let it start in gear without the clutch pulled in. Check the manual to be sure though.
As far as the banjo bolt switch I bought one a while back to use and never installed it. It's the same one that I've seen used multiple times across the net so I see no reason why it shouldn't work just fine.
Ya man, I did the banjo brake switch. Simple bolt on and just zip tie the wire to the brake cable. Hardly noticeable and no problems with it whatsoever.
And HERE's right about the clutch switch. It's a disconnect that won't allow the bike to start if it's in gear and the clutch is out. If you get rid of it (as I did) just don't hit the start button with the bike in gear and the clutch out. I haven't had any problem with it being disconected.

Used one of those Banjo brake switches on my XS650 chop, super simple to install like others have said.
I know I've posted this before, but it's one of the cleanest installs with stock controls... Looks good to me! Notice he's also using a Banjo brake switch...

you guys are super rad! thanks HERE. talking with my buddy after i posted and he said the same thing about that switch on the clutch side. gonna bypasss it by hooking them together like i did for the off/run. i ALWAYS pull clutch when starting the bike anyways, habit.

yeah seen the ross hall pics. thanks hutchy. did mine a little different too. put the control but up against the throttle instead of the switch in between, thought it looked more uniform plus i have big hands so i can reach them fine without moving a hand off the throttle. it really doesn't look that bad with the lip on there, i'm thinking because they're black, another reason i'm a little hesitant to grind the lip down, then i need to repaint them and would need to take therm off the bike to do that. i think i may just them like this until i can drop some coin on new hand controls. we'll see when i get to that point. thanks guys!
Or do like I did, buy a set of factory controls cheap...**** I actually got mine for free a while back. I think there's a set for sale in the classified section right now actually.
I too eventually plan to do something along the lines of the Ross Hall blog for my controls. Regarding the brake switch, I bought one but I've always wondered why he didn't utilize the factory brake switch that's built into the controls. Probably would have been a little cleaner install.
