High flow pipes, AC and a re jet - self wrenched would leave ya plenty for looking into cams - if ya have the dealer do the work - you will be out anywhere between 500 - to your 1000 limit depending on your pick of AC and pipes.

plenty of info here - if ya feel like DIY - then ya save the $$$ for other stuff

I gained about 15% just opening up intake and exhaust, seat of the pants power and excitement from my XL1200C. Samson exhaust, SE-AC, Dynojet, 4 years ago and still satisfied.

In my opinion... the more air/fuel you can get in and the more exhaust you can get out... the faster it will run...

I guess that means... carb, intake, head work (valves), cam and some tuned exhaust for starters....

A/C + Mufflers + re-jet + Mikuni carb
DIY under $1000 and you should be more than happy.
Think about it, even you spend another $1000+ on cams and other mods, how much more HP do you get?

Thought I would post a site I found very informative with real life dyno charts. Surf the site dynos, see for yourself. I struggled with the carb swap, HD vs Mikuni and decided not, see the link.

Well I went and looked. My question is...what was the control test? Its a great read-out and comparison but was it a stock HD or one with high flow pipes and A/C? If so, were both carbs stock or re-jetted? In my book, without control information, dyno test results like that are useless and just plain false to the consumer.

I'm not dissin HD carbs here or Mikuni, just stating my opinion.

The title block for the 'test and compare' section noted "using the same bike". I would think thats 'all else being equal' other that the components tested and minor variables. I know what your saying, but think most the tests give us some physical facts we can add to the performance equation...

I just wondered if it was a stock CV against a Mikuni stock? I would think there would be mention of jet sizes, etc... Having delt with this in the real world, dyno comparisons can be weighted just as poll results and surveys can be. Generally unless I do the testing myself, I don't trust the "end result". Guess that's just me. I have always been that way. Look at what they say, keep it in mind, and do my own testing.
