Frisco bars question.
I'm debating about picking up a set for my 01' 1200 sportster. would you recomend?
I ordered dimpled but decided to drill them. Externally run wires looked like ***. There is a good forum post on drilling bars, I consulted it and there are numerous posts about pulling wires. The 90 bend at the bottom of the friscos is a beeeeyotch. Just be patient. After hours of trying, i finally cut and soldered instead of trying to push the connectors through.
Good luck. I think they look great on a sporty.

So anyway, here's the nuts and bolts: I'm 6' tall. The Frisco bars have a 7" rise. The OEM riser is 5". That's a total of 12" -- therefore, I got the 12" Burlybrand cable & line kit for my model & year (which is the shortest kit they make.) Spoke to a "tech" at Burly who said that the cables in ALL of their kits are based on a 1 1/2" riser for ALL bikes. That means for MY bike, the cables would expectedly be about 1 1/2" too long (because: 7" bars + 5" riser = 12", but take away 1 1/2" for the "standard" riser height they figure into their measurement and you have 10 1/2", which is 1 1/2" difference from 12" kit.) END RESULT on my bike is that clutch cable could have been a few inches shorter, but it works fine (and is way smoother operation than factory.) The throttle cables could have been a inch or so shorter, but again work fine; and I always thought the factory cable were a bit tight anyway. ((If you want perfect lengths, you have to measure travel section of each cable, not including the fittings, and buy them all separately ... which costs a lot more, and doesn't include the wiring.)) My local chopper shop installed everything (including new switch housings) and internally wired the bars (so I'm guessing that the extended wiring that came with the Kit worked fine too.) Note: The Frisco bars are smooth (not knurled) so the shop knurled them first. It's been about 4 weeks and they still feel tight/no slipping.
On a side note, some people don't like the look of high bars on a tall sporty riser. I agree that the putting apes on the pulled back riser on later sporty's is not the greatest look, but on my 2002 "brick" riser, I love it, and don't care what opinion anyone else has.
