Default front end options

I have a 65 xlch that I am in the process of rebuilding. The front on this bike had the ears that the front fender mounts to cut off. Seeing how they do not make this front end i would guess I would have to go with one of the assemblies that change it over to disc brake. I thought of some options that I thought might work but am not sure and I dont want to go investing money in parts I cant return.
1st option: keep top tripple tree stock.(so i can keep the right model head light) get lower tripple tree for 1973-77(35mm). get 35 mm fork tube and slider assembly for 1973-77. also get a kit that converts the tripple trees form ball bearings to tapered bearings.

2nd potion: get kit to convert form ball to tapered bearings. install a front end that I like from a later model. I dont know if the neck sizes and lenghts arethe same for all the models.

I do not know if any of these options will work.
also if anyone has the forks for a 1957-72 sportster(with ears for front fender) and are willing to sell them please e-mail me
thanks for any help

panamageorge,

I can't help you but I envy your project! I've been looking for a mid-1960's XLCH to restore myself, it's a real piece of two-wheeled history. There has to be a motorcycle junk yard or restoration parts house somewhere that's got the fork pieces you need. Personally, I would go the restoration route and make the bike as original as possible. Also, check out antique motorcycle clubs and swap meets. Whatever you wind up needing is out there somewhere...

Good luck!

well i really want to keep it stock also but they do not make the front end or brake drum parts any more.
this is why I came up with these options.
