First off new to forum and new to harley seen. I picked up a 76 1000cc sportster ironhead i guess. Well when i picked it up guy said the battery was dead so jumped it and I rode it a hour back to my house no issues. Well went to fire it back up and nothing so i replaced the battery. Because took in old one and said it was done. Well I try to fire it up and it sounds like the starter keeps trying I can see a spark on the sylinoid or how ever its spelled but just keeps trying but wont catch. I know the relay is under seat but I see to relays so Im not sure what one is what. Is it the relay, starter, or the sylinoid i should be replacing? I even tried to jump it with neg grounded to bike and putting poistive on stater but still nothing just did same thing.. O ya if i try to many times it just makes a low muffeled noise like it doesnt want to live and just gives up hope to life. I want to bring her back to life...
You should get yourself a factory service manual, which will tell you what is where on your bike. How long after you bought the new battery was it before you tried to start your bike? Did you fully charge the battery before fitting it?
