I had this problem on my sport bike kinda of a last thing, so you have a sensor on your kick stand. my sport bike wouldn't start if the kick stand was up.
It may or may not be related, but you should never leave the battery on a trickle charger, it will cook the battery. You need to use a float type charger, ie Battery Tender.

Simple battery test - (using volt meter)
battery at rest - 12.9 volts
battery while starting - volt drop no lower than 12.2 volts
battery w/high idle - 14.2 volts
a battery at rest that measures 12.7 volts is 25% discharged!
a high voltage drop at start would indicate a weak battery
a low charge rate at high idle would indicate a weak charging system
Make sure all your connections are clean and tight. Beyond battery you would make sure you have juice down to the starter (test light) and then be working on the starting system.
