I'm curious if anybody has converted their sporty to a softail style frame. I would ideally like to weld on the components from a donor frame or find plans to save money, vs. buying something like this.
no thanks! please dont do this anyone, pretty please......a sporty is a sporty for a reason. if you want the hardtail look just get a hardtail and a spring seat. a proper weld on HT will have plenty of give and flex and will be plenty comfy but to each their own.

hard tails ride like chit. this is my way of making my sportster a big twin but keeping the sport suspension. not sure why you're so against it but to each there own.
You're in the wrong place if you don't want opinions! I like the idea of a parallel pushrod motor in a softail frame. Best of both worlds in my mind. (see I avoided that word!) Good luck with your project.

I'm all for ur idea... But if u changing the rear suspension ain't that the sport suspension part?

It'd be cheaper to buy a nice used Softail than attempt this abortion
I'm not looking for a softail I'm trying to build a custom bike out of my sportster. as i said, I'm not looking for opinions, this is the frame style I like. just seeing if anyone here had done something similar
Eh it's not very common. Every so often this topic has come up but never really see or hear of anyone making the conversion. Softails seem to get some hate in the custom world due to their "illusion" of a hardtail. Do what you want, you just won't find much info on them here.
