When riding put your hand palm down alongside the tank and see if it makes a difference on that side. If yes it's the wind coming up from bottom and alongside the tank.

You could try changing the angle of the shield by stacking washers between the plastic and the windshield frame at the top or bottom. If you put them at the bottom, the top of the windshield would be pushed back. It may not take much. A small angle change might make a big difference.
Lowers are probably your best bet.

Tried riding with and without a shield on a R100 and. Triumph Thunderbird. In both cases I went back and forth and eventually. Tossed them. I can deal with the wind better than the buffering of the Helmut. Damn phone can't spell.

If I don't tighten my 1/2 enough, the buffeting gets much worse.

Lose the shield altogether. I'd rather deal with the clean air hitting me than the buffeting around my head. If the wind still bothers you just wear a FF helmet.

I went nutso trying to put a shield on my Fatboy only to realize that it was a much better ride with out it....

Once you start down the windshield trail you will most likely end up poorer and never really happy with the results. I tried the 14" and 18" on my 2012 Custom and the buffeting was intense on both, as was the increased noise level. I went back to a full face helmet, and yes it's a compromise with wind pressure, but I can deal with that because it just plain works better than a shield.

I'm not sure about you guys but for me the windshield is more about bug protection than wind. I would be plastered in bug juice in the Summer without it, the buffeting is secondary and welcomed over the alternative.

Exactly. I do a lot of long distance riding and at the end of the day my windscreen and helmet visor are plastered with bug guts and juice, plus the rocks and stones bounce off too. At the age of 61, I have no more desire to eat bugs and rocks.
