Default Need Help

My '99 Sporty keeps backfiring. Last week I knocked out my baffles in my stock exhaust. Today I went for a two hr ride And all of a sudden when my RPM reach 3-4 it starts back firing and sputtering. Then it'll shut off and nothing. Any advice would be great.

Isn't "backfiring" caused by unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust system?

yea, it sounds like it is running lean, put in a bigger main jet...either that or put in some lollypops

If my bike is running lean like everyone is thinking....is there anything I can do at home to fix it or do I have to take it into the shop? Will new exhaust and AC stop this from happening? and what can I do while I save money for the new parts?

Adding a AC and exhaust will lean it out even more. Pull your plugs and tell us what they look like..

I pulled the plugs when I got home..the rear plug was black and dry....the front plug had some white residue on it...people say the new plugs today don't give any clues on a bike running lean. This is my first HD so I'm lost...

You decreased backpressure without increasing fuel. You're running lean. Which is dangerous. A new jet for more fuel is your only fix.

Thank you for all the help. Could adding lollipops help with back pressure or should I just have it jetted at my bike shop?

I would help, probably best to jet it IMO. If you have the funds available, hurry and put on the exhaust you want and the AC, and then get it jetted
