How do you bench test a 1987 Sportster starter motor?
I followed the manual instructions to test the solenoid - which works - but what about the starter - the only manual instructions are to take it apart.
Surely, it can be bench tested intact?
It is no different than testing a car starter. If you take it to any auto parts store, they should be able to hook it up to their machine. Although it won't be a load test and they probably won't have the specs for it, you can still see if it runs.
Thanks, I thought so. I am in Korea - "auto parts store"...explain what I want...have someone just do it...not going to happen.
I've seen bench tests for car starters, but the terminals are different. Mine has a ground, a positive from the relay, and a "field wire" from the solenoid to the starter...what can I do with those, apart from the solenoid test?
