Default Large object in oil tank $HIT!!!!

I figured I'd change my oil last night before todays ride, while pouring the new oil in I saw a big piece of the foil from the cap seal on my 5qt mobile 1 container slide right into the oil tank!. I guess it broke loose from the piece that was pushed inside the spout when I broke the seal. This thing looked HUGE, about the size of a quarter! I stopped, got a syringe and piece of tubing and sucked the tank dry. I looked in there with a flashlight but could not see it anywhere. I looked at removing the oil tank but after I got the battery out and the batterybox loose to gain access to the mounting screws and looking around there is one nut that would be impossible to get to without some MAJOR teardown so I stopped and thought I'd ask for some suggestions. This piece was way bigger than any of the ports on the tank so unless the oil pump has enough direct suction to pull it into a port it will stay in the tank. I sure as H3ll don't like it in there but removing the tank is a bear of a job!

I would keep fishing for it and use one of those little grabbers with the three wire jaws and a push button on the end you can get cheap at Harbor Freight to get it out.

Don't try to run with it in there. My opinion.

Lesson learned to remove those seals any time you open a container.

You might want to check the sides of the tank to make sure it didn't stick "out of sight" while you sucked the new oil out. I would NOT, and I stress NOT, fill up and ride like that. Doubtful that it would suck into the line, that's not what'd I'd worry about. The pump does have enough suction to at least pull the foil top to the oil port and that would be much the same as running it dry. You'd be starving the engine of oil, burn up the pump and toast the engine. I would get something like a wire hanger with electrical tape on the end (so you don't scrape pieces of plastic from the sides) and scrape the sides of the tank. It's in there, FIND IT!!

Also...make sure it did actually dislodge from the container. You may have opened it but still left it attached to the opening. When pouring it in the tank it may have "flipped out" and looked like it came out with the oil but in actuality it's still attached.

It's virtually impossible to see into the left side of the oil tank (area behind the battery) through the fill hole. I don't know how it would be possible to "fish" something out of that area.

Your best bet may be to refill the tank with some oil and try to get the foil piece to float to the right side of the tank (by leaning the bike left & right) so you can grab it.

There's no way I'd consider leaving it in there and risk having it block the oil supply line port.

I'd get some plastic tubeing and blow some oil onto the sides of the tank to dislodge the foil and fish it out. Patience is the key, good luck.

If you have wet/vac just tape a small hose to the big hose and run it around the tank side to side & top to bottom until it picks it up. If not then hit the DIY car wash.

Thought I'd throw up an assembly diagram of the tank.
My only suggestion is a shop vac with a filter element you're about to change. Unplug the drain hose to get some pass-through/turbulence.

Same thing happened to my stepdad with his BMW K1200R, I used to do TV installs so have a wall camera, I use the crap out of this thing. My recommendation, go buy one and return it later just keep it in good shape as they are not cheap. It has a light on the tip of the camera and it comes with a magnetic tip, and a hooked tip so you could use the camera, locate it, hook it, and slide it out.

it will for sure help you locate it and save tons of times and scraping
