My 20 year old daughter used to ride dirt bikes years ago and now wants to ride on the street and it has to be a Harley (just like her parents; I'm so proud). Just thought I'd ask around to get a little feedback from the masses.

She's 5'-8" probably 150+ lbs and very strong for a girl. She's drives a six manual car and her dirt bikes were normal with clutch and 5 speed manual shift.
IMHO the iron is a perfect girls/starter bike. Small, light and easy to handle. Combined with the small engine it should be perfect for your daughter. Look for used ones because most guys buy them and then figure out in a short period of time that they really are too small for them. Good luck.

I'm a girl and I ride an Iron. I can't really comment on the stock performance of the bike since I have done a few mods. However, I can tell you your daughter will not get bored. I too cut my teeth on dirt bikes and I freakin' love my Iron! Oh, and I have no problem keeping up with the big boys

Girls/starter bike? Do you even have an Iron? For that matter, do you even own an XL? Sound like a big twin loving, XL hating owner to me.

I'm a girl and I love my Iron! At 5'8" I would suggest forward controls (I'm 5'7" and found them to be much more comfortable), other then that the mods I've done so far are adding Rush slip-ons with a Stage 1 air cleaner. I just got some new bars, mini apes and have installed a sissy bar. Oh! And flip the mirrors down too! Otherwise you'll be looking at your shoulders!

Are you saying you were stupid enough to make the same mistake twice? From all the different bikes you have owned I'm guessing you have a list of bikes you don't like.

One of the reasons I kind of like the Iron for her is because of the mid mount controls; should be more like her dirt bikes and as always, they can be changed when she starts complaining.

I'm off work this Friday and I told her we would go look at bikes. She has text me everyday saying how excited she is for Friday to get here. I remember when I got my first Harley too

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.
