Default Stage 1 Complete!!!

Hey everybody! Got the Stage 1 done a little over a week and I'm very happy with it. Went with Screaming Eagle II's, SE air filter and a 45 jet and my 05 Sportster is running a lot better and warms up a lot faster. I just passed 800 miles on her and am getting ready for the 1st service and am going to go with the synthetic oil, I hear that helps the engine run a little cooler and also shifts easier, I've noticed that I have to really put some effort into shifting otherwise I tend to go to light a get a slight gringing sound rather than the normal clunk, do you think the 1st service along with the synthetic oil will help???

Glad to hear that you are happy with the stage 1 and all the goodies that go with it. I don't know about the synthetic, I'm undecided myself. It's an issue that I'm not really certain about and I have to do some more thinking about it. Good luck

The synthetic like Mobil 1 does lower the temps a bit, but you notice a difference in the sound of the engine also, sounds smooooooothe And this was a change from Syn 3 to Mobil 1 and it was noticable.

Went with Mobile 1 20/50 in the wife's Heritage at the last change. She says that it sounds different. I haven't ridden it enough to have a opinion.

I plan to switch in my EG Classic at the next change, and will be able to better tell what improvement there is. If I notice no glaring benefits I plan on going back to HD Dino. I change oil and filter every 2,500 miles so I don't worry much about breakdown.

Regards,

Bill

I noticed a difference in the sound of the engine going to syn3 from regular oil, a bit quiter. Next oil change thinking of going to AMSOIL.

What did it cost? I am getting prices from Seattle area dealers of $600 to $800 for the whole upgrade.

Thanks,

Jonnymo

Jonnymo,

The SE Air cleaner is about 140.00. The download for Fuel Injection if you have that is about 150.00. Pipes will be from 350.00 up, depending on what you want. If you don't have FI then you can rejet for about 15.00 and save 150.00 on the download.

The pipes you can do yourself, as well as the rejetting, but according to the HD Catolog, the SE Air Cleaner has to be done at the dealer or there could be warranty issues. If you have FI the download will also have to be done at the dealers.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bill

my bike has always had the syn3 in it...sometimes i hear the slight grind sometimes just the clunk... i think its more where you are standing i.e. on a hill, or flat ground. also what kind of load is on the bike etc... my previous 3 harleys all used regular oil and i heard the same noises. i agree with bill... if you are diligent about changing the oil, it doesn't really matter.
