Take-off touring air shocks...make a HUGE difference...also, add lowering blocks and it will be even a smoother ride.
Should be able to get the shocks on ebay for less than $100 and lowering blocks for around $50.
Make sure your handlebars are in the right position.
This is the way that has always worked for me to get the most comfortable handlebar position-
Sit on your bike
Have someone hold it up straight for you
Put your feet on the pegs
Close your eyes
Put your hands out to where it is most comfortable to hold them
Open your eyes...where ever your hands are, that is where you want the handlebar grips to be.
Some pegs that give a bit more support and flexibility for moving around - HERE
At 53 I got my sporty set up so I can ride all day long, almost as comfortable as a bagger.
What length of Air Shock did you go to? Also, just asking cause I don't know, how does lowering blocks make things even smoother even with the installed Air Shocks?

13" of an Ultra.
The lowering blocks get the height back down to stock height and since they put the shock further back on the swingarm there is more leverage on the shock. When it hits bumps the shock is more active, providing a noticeably smoother ride than when the air shocks were in the stock position.

The best thing I bought for my bike was a Corbin seat. Tons of styles available, but I got a solo (Hollywood, I think) and have ridden about 15k miles with nothing but smiles. I'm 6'0" and 200lbs. When you first sit on the seat it's pretty firm, but after 2 hours of riding you'll understand why this is a good thing.
Im 6 2 and 220 also and my Sportster and I just have forward controls.. The only pain I've felt was lower back pain thats why I sit up super straight when I ride and stand up at lights to stretch alittle
