my bike is spitting and spartering when i ride it but it starts and idels fine and when i give it gas but whene i put a load on it it starts acking up i accidently mixed reguler 20-50w oil with full synthetic 20-50w and thats when it started acking up the thing wouldent even stay ideling and back firing i took it to a shop and the points were broken put new ones in it and now like i said it starts fine and idles fine and when you give it gas in neutral it sounds fine but once i put it in gear and start riding down the road it spitts and sputters i have spark in both plugs so would the oil have any thing to do with it? also it has the S and S shorty E carb please help im ready to blow the damn thing up this is my first HD i loved riding it for the first few days and now this **** its so frustrating please help me thanks
I can't see the oil having anything to do with it.
You may have fouled the plugs with the bad points, try a new set.
Also are you sure you didn't knock a vacuum line loose when you were doing the oil change? old vacuum lines are brittle and even flexing them could have caused a crack.
Other than that it sounds like the carb may need cleaning? it may be running fine on the idle jet but the mains might be plugged up.
Nick, these sorts of problem are difficult to identify over the internet, much easier beside your bike. We can give you suggestions, but don't agonise over this for too long. Go back to your local shop - he will be much better able to sort out the new problem. He fixed the points quickly, hopefully he will find this one too.
You mustn't take this personally - you're bike is simply telling you it needs more help!
if you've got access to an air compressor, cleaning the main jet is pretty easy. Take the bowl of the carb off and blow air through the jet, that should clean out any crud that's blocking it.
