Default Exhaust without reprogramming?

I want the Vance and Hines shortshots for my bike...but cannot afford to have the bike reprogrammed...

Will that be absolutely needed if I bought the exhaust?

I have screaming egale exhaust now and it has not been programmed, I just want something a little louder...I tried to get the baffles out but they wouldn't budge

I ran my bike for 2 years with the stock tune and some Rush slip-ons. Sure the bike was lean, but no harm done. Most people add X14's or ViED's. Check out this link for more info http://sales.nightrider.com/ They are an inexpensive way to make your AFR more rich. They right around $100. That will be your cheapest way to go. Do a search for X14 and a lot of positive results will come up. Good luck with your choice!

Ran short shots on mine for a couple of months. Ran fine since had SERT installed and dyno wanted more HP but the bike ran great before the retune. Also did stage one during retune.

So you guys think I'll be okay?

The ViEDs look very interesting, I will get that when I order the exhaust to try and stop back firing and stuff like that.

Does it matter which ViEDs I get? They have 4 different ones for the sportster

yes you will be o.k.- just not perfect!!
as long as you dont do the sucker too you should be o.k.
you have relieved the back pressure but your engine still is fighting to get air. once you change the sucker you will find that the lean settings will become more noticeable, and IMO dangerous. if you do both, you absolutely should change the fuel settings.
my fav fuel management is not expensive and allows you to set the fuel very similar to carb settings - tfi techlusion. with that bad boy, your bike will run crazy fast and the engine temps much cooler. that plus never any hesitation or dangerous stalling (been there, done that one).

Go with the Vied,s. They have 2 settings on them. One is the same as the X14 and theres a richer setting i believe. Easy to set for city or highway and you have 2 choices if you like one over the other.

Youll be fine with the pipes, But REAl lean and it sucks, Youll get better MPG, but hurt the motor in the process because of the excessive heat.

Peace.

The Delphi ECM on the 2010 will adjust accordingly. You'll be fine until funds will allow for better performance...
