Default S&S Carb & Pipes 883R

Hey Guys,
I just bought my son an 06 883 R sporty that has been sitting for a couple of years. It's totaly stock with 1200 miles on it. I began by ripping off the carb because of coughing and running like *** so after searching here on this site I was able to drill the carb for air screw adjustment (Thanks) got it running pretty dam nice for him. Here is my question has any one put an S&S carb on these 883 and seen great results? We just bought Vance Hines shortys staggered pipes and He wants a hypercharger for it so I'm unsure if I should mess with stock carb and rejet or spend a couple of bucks and do an intake and carb. Thoughts? If any one has rejetted carb any good starting points for this set up.

Stick with the CV carb.

Short Shot pipes may cause you some tuning grief though.

Stay with the CV. That S&S is a step backwards IMHO.

Welcome to HDF from the UK! I have an S&S motor and carb in one of my bikes and it runs fine and am very happy with it. However the c/v carb is excellent and will feed a bike, even with a lot of mods. So I agree, stay with it. There are style things like pipes and air cleaners, then there are ones that will give excellent results. There are better alternatives that will give a much nicer and more rideable bike!

Welcome aboard & congrats on the R.

I don't understand why they went with a dual exhaust over the 2 into 1 on the newer R's. The older R's had a GREAT set of pipes from the factory.

Anyway, if you're looking to do performance mods I suggest one at a time. If you run in to tuning issues it will be much easier to track down.

And not to bust your ***** but if the V&H pipes you got are Short Shots then you'll be chasing your tail trying to squeeze more performance out of it. A Hypercharger is even more of a drag than the Short Shots.

CV carbs are great. For the all around best performance (on the outside of the motor) a stage 1 air cleaner (uses stock cover) and a nice set of slip ons on the stock pipes will be the best route. When you start adding parts that let it breathe in & out any more you'll have to upgrade the internals to take full advantage of them, It becomes a perpetual money pit...but fun to do.

So you don't like the hyper charger what air cleaner do you suggest? As for the pipes we all ready bout them so I guess I have to deal with it I was under the impression v&h were a good pipe for sound and little performance
