As was posted already, if you're patient you can find some deals. I bought a very clean '05 1200 Custom 4 months ago w/ Short Shots, jet kit, & Screaming Eagle air cleaner for $5k. It had 40k miles, but appears to be well maintained.

A couple things to keep in mind...A sportster has terrible resale value, you can pick up a newer one cheep.

2004 and up have the rubber mount
2007 and up have the fuel injection

You can easily find a 2007 for 5K if you just look around a bit.

Thanks everyone for your input. After a couple weeks of searching craigslist I bought this. It's a 2000 sportster 1200 custom.

My 883C has more than enough power. I'm 6'2 and weigh around 240 lbs.
I'm not racing Hayabusas though...

Congrats looks nice has a comfy looking perch that is a huge plus and I like black!

edit: I wont even say what I stole my 883 for w/6100 miles it makes me feel bad for the guy but then I forget about it as soon as I look at it and go riding.
