Howdy,
I recently bought a '92 Sporty 1200 for a reasonable price. The seller claimed it has "the Screamin' Eagle package" but other than an etched plate on the air cleaner with the SE logo, he couldn't tell me what performance parts this included. The pipes are straight, no baffles and has HD on them rather than SE, which I have seen. The only other obvious aftermarket part is a K&N air filter. The price was right and the bike runs great, so I didn't want to insult the guy by questioning him too much about the SE pedigree.
To cut to the chase, is there any way to determine if there really is a performance package installed on the bike without getting too deep into the engine? It runs too good to tear it down before its time.
What did he claim? A stage1 air kit, or a stage 1 engine kit? Best way ive found to tell if its just the air is HD usually has a sealed unit (ham Can) with a slit someplace towards the front for air intake. If this one has open air all around the back of the ham can then yes its a stage 1. As for motor Stage1, Goto HD and run the vin.
