I'm also thinking its to do with being in a group. They just wanted to scope you out.
Here in South Africa the traffic cops don't even know the difference between a permit and a license. I was with the OL on a road trip and they just accepted the permit.
Nothing is inforced except for wrong size number plates or no plates or no license.
Any bars are cool, any pipes are cool no noise violations etc.
So last night i went out with my dad and my two friends. We were ridin down the hwy an undercover cop pulls us over. Before he gets out of the car two more box us in. He claims he pulled us over because my two buddies handle bars being too high, state law says they can't be over the shoulder. They are both over 6ft and have 16 inch apes with no risers so they might have been an inch higher if that !! They could have been a lot worse but they had the nerve to Say don't ride in groups of more then two because we're goin to pull you over and find something wrong ! ! ! Overall we sat there for 25 minutes and they each got a ticket ... Really makes Me wonder why there are so many cops around here if they have the time to bust our ***** for bullshit !!

My buddies are just all tatted up and goin. 20 mph the cop prob got a good look and figured he could bust us for something !! So 5 miles back we were prob goin 25 in a 50 zone lol

We were real polite and he said look you guys were cooperative so I gave ya a break ... No moving violations just typical bullshit ... They got simple fines ... I guess in reality tru could have really broken our ***** but at the same time there was no reason to even pull us over ! It is what is it ... The fact they said don't ride in a group kind of pissed me off and then asked why do you need to ride in a group and when I said because it is actually safer as cars see you better ... The cop goes yea well we see you better also ! Just find it hard to believe four guys riding down the hwy warranted that kind of police attention.
While law enforcement routinely denies that they use profiling tactics, anyone that believes that is naive. Most of us have done something to our bikes that makes them technically illegal, which gives the po-po a legal technicality to stop us on.
I have to wonder if the cops real message to you wasn't so much about riding in a group of four, as it was about the 2 friends appearance and your being with them.
Since you were coming from "the fireworks" which is pretty much a family oriented event, maybe law enforcement was being extra vigilant for anything that looked like gang activity.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like harassment or profiling BS either. But I guess if your "tatted up" friends at a public family event looked anything like this, they probably fit a profile.
I could maybe see if they pulled you guys over and talked about how your bikes are out of regulations just to get a feel if you were a threat or under the influence. But the tickets were the unnecessary part. The group comment was probably just some BS they pulled out of their asses to affirm their "probable cause" and attempt to keep the upper hand. Sorry about the inconvenience buddy.
Thanks guys that video made my day ! And yea I can see it from their point of view but once they pulled us over and saw everything was legit and that their bikes were old shovel heads I figured we were good to go ... O well I guess it was bound to happen eventually
thanks for humoring me !!
Ride safe out there

Just another step towards complete domination of the people by government. That cop was probably lost "his girl" to a biker or was pissed off the donut shop was closed. Not all are like that, some of them retained there sense of self after training.
Cops here where I live in the burbs of Cincinnati will give a ticket for your license plate being vertical and I think 16" apes is the tallest bar you can run here.
If he called in two other cars, you can bet someone is getting written up for something. I'm from Michigan and our cops our supposed to be very strict on moving violations (I know that's not what you got) because they offer a class where you can get your points back. So they get to charge you for the ticket + the class. Depending on what's going on, their also told to concentrate heavy on certain areas, certain types of tickets or anything else other that race, gender etc... Sometimes the higher ups are the one's making the calls. And then there are those who are on a power trip.
