Default Windshield

Hello there, just bought a windshield for my 06 883c. I'm kind of new to the biking world. Just turned 28 last year and with family into the biking thing and father looking at one since 30 some years and getting one really got my blood going. As I'm sure some know that wife was not to happy about it. I am a vol. firefighter and swore I would never ride one. Even my own uncle has giving me some reasons. Anyway, I bought my first ever bike after taking the riders egde class and still kind of nerveous on it. I get it up to about 45 then I keep it there. Lord knows here in Delaware is some great back country riding which is what I want to do. However, you have to keep up the pace as some poeple do not like to take their time and enjoy the ride. So, my question is does the windshield really may a differance in the riding experance? Any advise would be greatly appresheated too. Thanks.

In normal air, I have found a windshield:

1. Takes a lot of buffeting off your head at highway speeds
2. Protects your upper body in the rain fairly well
3. Makes cold-weather riding more tolerable
4. Protects your movie camera if you mount one on the bars
5. The bugs hit it instead of you

Numbers 1 & 3 above are why I like mine the most...

I bought a detachable thinking I would use it part time but have found it to be useful all the time. If I take it off now the bike look naked and I fell more vunerable to the elements, especially flying objects. My shield has taken alot of hits from rocks and bugs, glad it wasn't me.

I have a detachable also and leave it on most of the time. Thumper 26 has given you all the good reasons to have one and I agree. I wouldn't even think of going on a long road trip without it on.
