Hi all, I just got me a 96 1200 Custom. I am totally new to motorcycle. I just finish the motorcycle safety class and enjoying the ride this weekend. I think it's a little too much power for me at this time, but the deal on the bike was too good to pass up. Anyways, I have a question. I seem to have trouble staying on the seat at highway speed. I am 5'11" 170lbs. Do you guys think a windshield would help in my case?
when i did the 883/1200 conversion on my sporty it felt like i was gona slide right off the back of that thing, i got a corbin seat and my butt stays in one place, it also accomadates a backrest.
Howdy, welcome to the forum. Although I don't have any experience with a Sporty, what Mike said makes sense. Pretty soon you might get used to it and not even notice it. Enjoy the ride
Change that seat, a Corbin won't let you slide off the back, a windshield will cut the initial blast but won't help keep the butt in place when you hit a good bump.
I need to get a corbin. But I just put the LePera on (solo) at the same time I did the top end rebuild. Talk about not being able to stay on!! I got use to it quik though.
Is your bike stock, Stage 1, or more?
I never rode mine stock, it came from the dealer stage 1, Is the first bike I have ever rode, I learned on it, Before I got it people told me they were scary fast, was thinking I should of got a 883 before I picked it up. Didnt take long before I wanted more. You will get use to it quikly if you like to hot rod, but I also know peopel that have had their 883's for a few yrs and are still happy with them at stage1 , I guess to each their own, Let me know how it goes for you.
I am not sure what a Stage 1 is. I just got the bike and it's also my first bike. I just got a few pebbles hit my helmet and wake me up a bit. I think I would probably get a windshield. The least it can do is give me some protection from the bugs and gravels. I might get a better seat later on, but right now I am too new to go all out on the bike on accessories. Thanks for all your input and advices.
I just looked at the pic of your bike. Nice looking scoot by the way. I would say you have stage 1 by looking at it.
Thats cool if you want a windshield. Do you ride on the freeway alot? I do a bit, but mostly like to Hot Rod around the back roads and town. I am not into windshields myself, I am not into any of the extra exceciories really, I like just a clean Hot Rod look.
But thats whats so cool about Harleys, everyone is cool and done differently.
Nice Hummer by the way, good choice in getting the truck.
