Greetings everyone. I am a novice to riding but getting better with practice. I need some suggestions on what I can do. I have a HD XL1200C sportster and I bought myself an engine guard for my bike. Thought installing it would be easy but noooo not for me something always has to go wrong. Using my socket set to take out the top 2 Torque-40 Bolts I stripped one of them by accident cause it wouldnt come off for anything, did anyone ever have this problem and how can I fix this. Should I just take it to the shop? Thanks in advance for all your input.
I have a set of sockets that have reverse direction teeth. You put it on the head of the stripped bolt or nut, turn as if you're removing the bolt, the teeth dig into the head and turn it out. Presto
What type of tools do you have. Is the torn part of the bolt is what is stripped? Forgone me what type of head is the bolt? There are several ways to get it out I need some info on the bolt and what tools you have
I just used my husky socket set, and an adapter on my socket set for a 1/4 inch drive so I can put a bit for the Torq 40. It is a round head type screw that got stripped and the only bit that fits in there is Torq-40. (star shaped) I dunno how else to explain. Just sucks that I cant try out these new engine guards I bought. Thanks again for any input.
This might sound crazy but I stripped a torque head bolt once and this is how I got it out. First I sprayed the you know what out of it with Liquid Wrench, forcing as much down into the threads as possible. Let it set for a while. This stuff goes everywhere so cover what you don't want it on. Then I took a socket head with a standard straight screw driver head on it that just fit into the center of the bolt, so the blade caught on either side of the star in the center. Then I slowly appllied pressure until it
broke loose. Don't know if this will work for you or not, could be worth a try. Make sure you use the Liquid Wrench first as this has a lot to do with it braking lose I think.
Yeah there it is, its the one on the top. Someone told me to use a drill with a bit extractor but theres no way I can fit a drill underthere. Anything I can buy in home depot? I dunno, HELP! lol
