This may sound dumb and I do know how to work on bikes and cars, but for the life of me I can not get the front fender to come off my bike. It's a 2007 XL50. I put a wrench on the fender mount nuts and they just spin and spin and I can see the end of the bolt sping as well in the forks-you know how the bolts are smoth on the outside. So what's the trick? I feel dumb, I can pull and engine, but not a sporty fender LOL!
The bolts are allen head, I would suspect someone has put pop in smooth caps.

Well then IDK how to get then out as they are recesed in there, It seemed the smooth (caps) where spining with when I tuned the nut. I will have to take a look at it tonight. You know come to think about it, the 2008 1200C I had last year did have allen heads exposed there.
I just bought my nightster used and previous owner had the fender off. I thought I would leave it off but got caught in the rain the second day I really rode it and I won't be doing that again. Problem is he lost the bolts. What size(s) and how many do I need to put it back on?
I love not having mine and I'm getting ready to take the rear fender off. AND I drive my bike like a car. I just dropped $1,700 into my bike and next is a LaRosa solo bag with fuel bottle and a fork tool bag. Quite possibly a bag for the right side too not sure yet though... Point is I still prefer no fenders and the front is so easy to take off. It's one of the first things I did.

You ride in the rain then? How do you stand it? Full face helmet? I love the look but wet road grime in the face ain't my thing lol

Intentionally only twice. The day I bought the bike cause it was ride it home in the cold rain on Sat and get to enjoy the nice day we were having Sunday or wait untill Monday to pick it up. Then one night when there was lots of thunder and lighting and it was just a gorgeous night. I decided to ride and it started raining before I got ready but I said screw it...
Other than that not intentionally. I have a truck I just prefer my bike.
And yeah a full faced helmet is almost a must. I've been caught in the rain a few times without one and it's not fun. Last time was 5:30 AM, still dark outside, and I had to pull over and get my sunglasses so I could keep my eyes open and see.......
Now I always wear my full faced and as far as getting wet from no fender, well if it's raining that fender doesn't help out too much! It is annoying when the roads are wet cause it just quit but I'm willing to deal with it.

I've gone years with a bike as my only means of transportation. That's been a while ago but I've gone through my share of wet roads. This was the first time I did it without a front fender though and I will be putting it back on lol.
You are right that if its raining hard that fender won't do much good but the problem is that just waiting for it to stop wont help. You have to wait for the roads to clear up too. I actually got drizzled on just a bit but my entire front was drenched from the wet road. Fender going back.
