I have a 2001 XL883 that I put a SE slip-on's and high flow intake. I wanted to put the SE CV 44mm big bore carb on but had a question. Do I need the big bore intake?? It says that it is required in the SE catalog but I'm not sure. Please any help is appreciated.
It's probably required, I wouldnt recommend that carb choice though for your bike. Your engine isnt big enough for such a big carb and so unless you're running really high RPM it probably wont be a good choice.
S&S makes really good carbs and you could have one on your bike for about the same cost and i bet it would spank the SE carb set up.
The stock carb on your bike is just fine. With simple tuning/rejetting, the stocker can handle sporty engines that have been modded out get around 100 HP. No need for the S&S or SE carbs. There was another thread in just the past few days that discusses this too.

Thats true, working over the stock carb should make all the difference you need
