Blown head gasket.
I have a head gasket on the rear cylinder that has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I've never been into the top part of the engine, but I have my factory manual, and I'm fairly confident in my mechanical abilities, so I think I will probably be alright there.
I plan on fixing it as soon as I can, but will it be alright driving it until I can get the new parts? I have been keeping a very close eye on the oil level. I'm just not quite sure how serious this problem really is besides leaking oil all over the place. Also, it's not leaking terribly fast, but it is leaking none-the-less. Any advice you guys can give me would be much appreciated, thank you.
the fix isnt hard either- have to admit that i have never done it, but i have had guys tell me the "how to" several times (cause i have blown mine twice now- in fact, i have been riding the past 500 miles or so with a gasket leak)...
my first gasket was a head gasket. the second one was a rocker gasket.
i think its a disadvantage of efi. we never know when our bikes are really warmed up so i know i get on it too soon. but, hey its just too much fun!!
I changed mine this spring, I had annoying oil leaks on both. Not a hard job, just follow the manual.
Make sure you have the right tools, the 12 pt socket for the head bolts was one I had to search a couple of stores for.
Use good gaskets.
