Default Cams

I have a 2005 1200. I have the fireball HI-4TC Ignition and the single fire coil. I have V&H Straightshots with an Arlen Ness Big sucker for an intake. I am wanting to put in cams. Any suggestions? Can I get more horsepower without headwork?

I would get a set of hammer 560 cams and also get a custom map for your ignition.

Make sure you can jet your bike to match the cams and hang on!

Cams and headwork really go hand in hand. I'd look into doing both at the same time.

I agree with both post above. Hammers 560 cams rock for rubber mount bikes. Head work will give you a new bike. Just cams will help tho. Your exhaust is not the best choice for performance. It comes down to how much you want to spend. When putting cams in dont forget about valve to piston clearance, valve to valve and if it will raise or drop compression. Hammer can advise you on that on one quick call or email. Good luck.

+1 Cams are useless without complimenting headwork.

I appreciate the info. I will look into headwork and the Hammers 560 cams. Would I need to go to a bigger compression piston if I do all this?

What exhaust would you recommend?

I'd suggest you talk to Dan at N R H S or Aaron at Hammer, consider carefully what you are trying to achieve.

My S&S kit came with 555/N9 cams. While they seem to work pretty well from about 3500 RPM up, I'm considering a change in cams to help my power curve in the 2500 to 3500 RPM range, that's where I spend most of my time.

So I am considering a change to SE536s or Impact 560s. Any of you guys running 560s have dyno charts? The chart I found on Hammer's site is for a 110 HP motor, I'd like to see some charts for regular street engines.

Quiet operation and straight bolt in are important to me too, but may not matter to you. That makes me lean more towards the 560 than the 536.

Supertrapp, sampson 2 into 1 caliber, thunderheader are my 3 favorite exhausts for making great power.
