No real problem switching to synthetic. If your bike runs and doesn't leak, it's unlikely you'll have "new" leaks from synthetic. Plus you'll get the benefit of better cold starts/protection.

As an aside, is there any objection to switching from conventional to synthetic? Some car nuts say it's bad juju to put synthetic in a crankcase that's had conventional in it its whole life, though I was never sure whether to listen to that advice or not.

Common opinion is it'll get by worn rings and burn off faster, but modern engines go a whole lot longer on rings, 200,000 is common on cars, lotta Harley owners claiming 100,000+. I've put it in a car with a little over 55,000 miles, and it didn't use any. You could try it, and if it seems to be using more, switch back to conventional in the spring. Some folks say there's more engine noise with synthetic, but I haven't noticed any in a variety of bikes, including my sportster.
