Hello,
I found a nice taillight with build in indicators for my '91 Sportster, it says in the ad that it fits Sportsters from '99 to '07. Is there a difference in rear fender or taillights between Sportsters, because it looks the same. So will this taillight fit or not.
Who can help?
But anyways, it's probably something to do with the wiring/circuit. I'm not right next to my multi-year manual, but when I get home I'll check to see if there is a major difference between the two.
Edit: I looked it up. The mounting is very different between the two. There is also no circuit board in the older taillight like there is for the newer ones.

I doubt it will mount up right. The mounting system of the light to fender is different, & there's no wiring junction box in/under the rear light for pre-'96. I found that out when I got a fender for my '00 from a '95 I believe. The '95 light just has the three wires going to it. Hope that helps in your decision, but someone may be along that has more knowledge of a '91 light assembly.
The wiring is not a problem, I have to re-do it anyway, it is kind of a mess.
I just need to know if the mounting on the fender itself fits.
So you think the mounting system is not the same?
I'll look tonight at both fenders and let you know later tonight/tomorrow. If I remember correctly, I think the two screws that hold the light on the '95 screw directly to the fender, and with my '00, the two screws from the light go to the wiring harness that is then bolted to the fender from a tab that hangs down. But as I said, I'll look tonight as it's been a while since looking at either fenders.

Well, it's as I remembered, and it's not going to mount up right. The '99 & up has an open area under the light with one single tab sticking down towards the tire that the chrome trim ring and wiring harness mounts to and the rear light screws onto the chrome trim ring. The '95 has like a 90* mounting bracket that protrudes out of the fender towards the light cover and the light mounts to two holes.
