Is it me or is the current fad to have one of these two bikes? Most look the same and it seams the market is flooded with them. Everybody does the same shift with them. When will this fad change and go on to the next? Why is every thread seam to be nighter or 48 specific when it's really just a rubbermount sportster question or topic. I'm I out of the loop? Lol

well as they dont make the Nightster anymore you may have your wish to see other bikes more.
i think its because these 2 bike lend themselves to be moulded into whatever the owner wants, also the passing current fad of blacked out bikes did help but metal-flake seems to be coming back.
For me the vivid black Nightster is the best Sportster HD have made in the last 30 yrs but thats my opinion.
How do you mean "most look the same? how?
Well, I'd say HD had a vision with Dark Custom that has paid off. They are affordable also.
The threads are 48 Nightster Iron specific because there are sooo many parts on our bikes that are unique to the models such as the LED setup at the back, clean fenders, low ride height, specific types of wheels and less bling.
There are thousands of variations. Some have clip ons, some have ape hangers, some have drag bars, some like certain types of pipes, you'll find chopped fenders, shorty kick up fenders, modern looking, retro looking, window bars, custom paint jobs, DIY air cleaners, souped up bikes. We all come here for inspiration.
I'm lucky to have found my scoot when I did.

You hit the nail on the head. Maybe it's just the blacked out thing. They are sweet bikes. Maybe it's just the older bikes were so bland and these bikes aren't. I want to see cool threads of these bikes....not some guy that bought a new one then spent 2500 on bolt on junk and now it's "custom" I'm not bashing , just wandering.
Am I old or what? Cause I don't get the clip on bars with forward controls on these newer bikes.
didn't see or care about a fad, we needed a sportster for her first bike and it was going to be orange. was/is blacking/murdering/blackout/bpc a fad ?, I been doing it since '77 and have no intention of ever wanting more chrome.

slick cafe' racer bro.
As to the OP, in my opinion the sportsters are the hottest and most fun bikes in HD line up right now and on top of that they're affordable and easy to mod into many different styles of scoots. Great bikes.
for me a big part of it was age...I'm 23 and most guys my age (at least where i am from) are riding around rice rockets. I grew up around harleys and knew i would never own a sport bike. The nightster seemed perfect for a young rider that wanted a harley that wasnt too much money and still appealed to a young crowd and like stated earlier in the thread i love being able to tweak things on it to make it my own. Actually now that i have gotten my bike, the friends i ride with that all have sport bikes are now looking to make the switch over to a real bike
