Default is this a plug or something else

need your help in fixing a leaking plug on my 96 sportster. the attachments show a plug on the right hand side of the engine where the two cylinders meet at the bottom of the V.

if I remove this plug, will anything be displaced internally? or is it just a plug.

thanks ahead of time

EDIT: Timing hole plug. You can remove it and nothing will be displaced. You can even pick up a clear one if you want to see the timing marks.

Like he said, it is the timing plug. It is used to shine a timing light into in order to dynamically set the ignition timing using the stamped marks on the flywheel.
