Question Help on a Dealer question

Already performed the Stage 1 (intake, slip-ons and HD download), now I understand the motor is still running lean, I spoke to the HD Dealer and was informed that adding a Tuner could void my warranty but if I allowed them to install it they would still honor it, the reasoning behind it was that they (the dealer) would then know the installation was done correctly and that the correct Map was being used (the tuner in question is the Fuelpak by V&H).

Now this makes me wonder and actually is a little confusing because not more than 2 months ago the Dealer was telling me "they could not make any adjustments to the running of the motor that would put the EPA Standards here in Californiain in question or take the running of the motor out of the standards". So if this is correct wouldn't adding the Fuelpak do just that by adding more fuel and changing the way the motor consumes air and fuel?

Most dealers will program it to epa spec. for the mods you have. It will still be too lean.

Well then if that is true, then having one added by the Dealer would be waste of money? Is it the Dealer that gives the Warranty on the bike or Harley Davidson? because if it is HD then what is good for one state should be good for all??

If you buy a tuner, you flash or leave it on for your profile (depending on what brand you get). When you bring to the dealer for service, flash it back or remove the device.

Well Rev that sounds like the answer "flash it back or remove" but one other question does the computer on board record the better fuel/air codes where as if I remove it or flash it back the dealer would then see it anyways or no??

The original 24 month warranty is from the manufacturer, HD to the owner.

HD has disclaimers about "Installing off-road or competition parts to enhance performance may void all or part of your new motorcycle warranty." So, V&F Fuel Pak, Dynojet Power Vision, etc. could be a basis for a potential void of the factory warranty.

I do not trust much of what my local dealers tell me, so I would not believe that they would go to bat for me on a warranty claim to HD knowing that they installed an aftermarket product. I would say that if you want to ensure that you have a full factory warranty, do not add any products that impact engine performance.

I do not worry about it, though. I have XiED's on my 2012 bike and I plan to get Power Vision sometime this year. I've never read a thread on this forum about users having engine issues with these or similar products. Heck, I've rarely read about any engine issues about these bikes.

Funny how this "varies" from dealer to dealer. FWIW, unless the dealership (through HD assessment) can 100% prove the added tuner caused damage...they can't void anything. Even though my bike "rarely" sees the dealer service dept (usually recall work - only) they've never commented, or stated my tuner's an issue. I even demo'd it to them & they thought it was "pretty cool."
