Default acceleration/torque problem???

My 06' 883 has Vance/Hines StrSht Slip-ons and a Screamin Eagle Air Filter -- the carb was jetted by an HD dealer.

It seems to have no real torque. It's inital acceleration seems fine, but then the torque curve seems to flatten out. My wife has an 02' 883C with similar mods....when I rode hers for comparison, the torque just kept on coming -- a definite difference.

Here is another comparison: I couldn't catch/pass an 05 VW beetle (not the turbo)!!!!!!

Is there something wrong here, or is the 02 883C normally a faster bike? Where should I begin the troubleshooting process?

It's been a year since HD jetted the carb and dynoed the bike, so it's possible this problem had a gradual onset that I just started noticing....I can't remember what the numbers were when they had it on the dyno.....HELP!!!!

Some low end torque is lost when going to Open or freer breathing pipes, especially if baffles are removed, but you seem to have larger issues than some minor torque loss. I would suggest taking it to a good Mechanic, preferably one with a Dyno to "see" what is wrong.

Yeah I agree get it dynoed and see where you stand, and get it tuned from there.

I think your prob is its running too lean. I had a similar problem withmy 02. A 48 and 180 jet and wow! A new bike.

Do you know what jets the dealer used? The dealer here will only change slow jets. Your dealer could have done this.

The 02 is a faster bike because it weighs less, but has the same power.

The pipes can also be the issue as they aren't known for performance and a torque dip with them is fairly common.

Has your bike always been this sluggish? If this is recent or has happened over time, it can be something such as an intake leak or something else.

yeah I would check for an intake leak to start with. it is possible they pinched the slide diaphram if they were in the top of the carb and it has eventually got a tear in it. If you are uncomfortable messing with the carb and intake go get another dyno run it will save alot of head ache and time.

Another option is to just let a dealer tech look at it. It's an 06 and should still have a warranty. If it's an intake leak, then it should be fixed under warranty. Especially since he said the carb was jetted by the dealership. If anything is wrong there, then it's their fault and their responsibility to fix it.

If I want my bike to run well I take it to an INDEPENDENT Shop with a good reputation. I don't think most dealers are interested or knowledgeable enough to get the most out of the bike. The laws are keeping some of them from using the parts needed for best performance.
