I have several questions. I hope someone can help.
1) When I restart my 2006 Sporty (about 7500 miles) after the engine is warm, there is a loud metalic clanging sound coming from the center lower right side (somewhere near the starter) when I press the ignition switch. Sometimes it is a faint clang and other times it is seriously loud. At its loudest, the clanging sounds like a hammer hitting an anvil. This is the second time I brought it back to the dealer for this problem. The first time the service tech claimed it was a loose chain. He stated he tightened the chain to remove any slack. The sound continued and I returned it to the dealer. The folk at the service center look at me like I am crazy.
2) Just about the same time this clanging started, my yellow/orange engine light (on the speedo) stays on for 10-15 minutes. I complained about this issue. The service dept. could not find anything causing this problem either. Note: I changed my oil during the 5000 mile check..I am using synthetic oil. I checked the oil and this was not an issue. During my ride, the oil temp was around 175 degrees.
The techs stated that they heard another sound coming from the engine and they believe that there is a problem coming from the valves. I asked if this issue is causing the light and the clanging, and they stated that they did not know. They are waiting for HD to give them permission to open up the engine assembly.
Has anyone experienced any of these problems? I am glad my Sporty is still under warranty.
Sounds like an enternal engine problem.Starts banging after you warm it up when the oil has thined out.Thank god your still under warranty. No sense going nuts trying to diagnose it yourself.Just stay up the dealers *** and dont let them jerk ya around.
The clanging sound only occurs when the ignition switch is engaged; at the instant when the engine is started. The sound is coming from the starter or the right side chain.
