Default Progressive Monotube Kit

I'm looking at replacing the springs in my '07 Custom. Progressive recommended their Monotube Kit (31-251), which apparently replaces the entire guts of the forks. Does anyone have any experience with this replacement?

Same thing they recommended to me a couple days ago with changing out my rears, I haven't had time to research it yet.

Dang those things are expensive at $300+. Most people's problem with the front end come from not having enough preload on the fork springs. This makes it really easy to bottom out and clunk the front end even on small bumps. Adjusting front preload is far more involved than adjusting rear shock preload. You have to take the fork caps off and change out the spacer for longer ones until you get the correct amount of "sag" when seated on the bike. Sag is best set to around 1/4 of the total suspension travel. I know nothing about these kits because it appears they were just released for the Sportsters. Anything out of the box though would require preload experimenting to get the best performance.

I agree. Considering the lack of responses, I'm guessing that there are very few people who have this installed. At $340, I'm not so sure that I want to experiment with an unknown product.

you will have better luck with a set of Ricor's and some "works" springs!

those are cartrige fork emulators not exactly the best thing out there ^ the above will work better and will be TUNEable

I'm guessing that you're talking about the Ricor Intiminators. Is this correct? Also, can you tell me more about these "works" springs?

Yeah I think I'm gonna try them. It totally makes sense and at $300ish I think it's cheap.

There are two add-in devices, one being the Ricor Intiminator, the other being Race Tech Emulator. Both are installed inside the forks, promise nirvana and claim to be the answer to all our prayers. Intiminators are installed without any mods, except for adjusting sag; Emulators require minor mods to the stock damper tube, which is irreversible except by fitting a new damper rod; Monotubes replace the entire guts of the stock forks.

Monotubes suffer IMHO from having progressive-rate springs, which I do not favour, whereas we can fit suitable single rate springs with the other two. I have Emulators in my Sporty and frankly don't see any benefit, so cannot recommend them.
