Default exhaust question

hey guys I'm new to the forum and have been riding for a couple years now. I'm thinking it's time for some vance and hines short shot considering. My question is does any know if I can screw anything up by not installing a power commander or any thing like that? Does any one have any suggestions?

You can change your pipes without the need for a tune. If you change your a/c to a high flow a/c with your new pipes, you'll need a tune. I'd recommend a Powervision over a Power Commander. The Powervision will flash your ECM with autotune which means you don't need a Dyno tune. I don't see a need for a piggy back Power Commander since the Powervision will tune the bike just the same without the need for a separate module. If the Powervision is too much $$, I'd consider some IED's which will richen the mixture to protect you against running lean, but it is not a tuner, it only adds fuel to the mixture to fix the lean condition created by a high flow a/c.

Well I got the Vance and hines installed without any tunes, and it's all going well so far

I don't recommend the power commander as it really can't sense weather factors..
I'd personally go with a custom tune, or maybe just an ECU flash as iwantmybeerbackplease said above

I am getting ready to put some side shots on my Iron was going to do a new AC to but I was quoted almost 1300.00 for the 2 items and a download ,so from what I have been reading,if I just get the side shots I don't need to retune,so for now just pipes I guess

Just pipes and there is no need for you to do anything else. But if you get a high flow air filter you should do more. I don't suggest spending large amounts of money on a tuner when all you will really need is a hundred dollar set of XiEDs. Don't really need a tuner unless you decide to also upgrade the cam or are planning to race your bike professionally.
