Default Checking oil level.....?

Just wondering if I need to check the oil level with the bike upright or with it on the jiffy stand?

Do you ride it upright or on the jiffy stand?

It depends on what year your bike is. If it is 2003 and older, check it upright. If it is 2004 or newer, check it on the jiffy stand. Either way, check it hot. It is best to check it at fuel stops after it warms up. If the oil level is more than half way between the full and add marks, some bikes have a tendency, mine included, to blow a little oil out of the air cleaner.

Does this mean you check your oil upright (which would be wrong) on a newer sportster?

Read your owners manual.

Has anyone really checked the length of the stick for an older one and the newer version that has it on the stand. My Softail if I put it midway on the stick while on the stand it's not too full when level, so does not really make a difference. Midway cold oil is fine.

It will read full when up right if it's half way when on the stand. It's just easier when on the stand.
