The bike: 2007 Sportster Roadster.
Why is there a hole on the rear of the front fender? It was obviously drilled for some reason.Does anyone know what it's for?[sm=partyparty.gif]

It's not just the '07s. I have a 2001 and it has a hole at the back of the fender also. However I don't know what it is for.

I think it's a mounting hole for a mudflap. I've also heard it's used as a spot to hang it when it's in the paint booth.

I noticed that myself - seems like two small rubber plugs could be used by HD to plug those open holes...it would only cost a few cents..

The hole is put there by the factory as a way to hang the fender during painting.

The hole is used for fall-away testing to measure the adjustment of the steering head bearings.

You've discovered the secret to the Sportster! That hole increases performance handling, lowers the weight, and creates less drag. According to Harley Davidson, it took10 years of research and testing before it was discovered a small hold in a precise spot in the back of the fender would result in some amazing performance increases.

Although, there have been unconfirmed reports of the modification having been around for some time. Some refer to it as the "Cletus Hole" after Cletus McGraw. Known for his swift sportster and complete lack of mechanicle aptitude, he recently admited the secret to his success after a few too many pints of moonshine.

"One day, mah ole ladey caught me with elly mae out behind the barn. Whaile Ahh wus a'pullin up mah draw's she a come a runnin out the shack with mah huntin gun. Well, Ahh decided to git gone on mah spoatsa. She musta gotten off a lucky shot an hit that there metal thing. I say Hawley or David's son oughtta be a payin me fer creatin this here speedy hole"

That hole has been there for decades. My '77 has the hole. I have several 70's model front fenders, they all have the hole.
