Default HUGE Disappointmen......48

Either my Nightster is the most powerful 1200 on the road (not) or I just rode the weakest 48 ever built.

Test rode a 2011 48 this morning with a nudge over 400 miles on the clock. Man was I disappointed. I felt like I was riding a scooter; had no power!!

This bike is completely stock. I remember how my Nightster performed stock and this 48 doesn't feel like it has the power of even an 883!?!?!!!

What's the deal guys?? All I can say is that I'm sooo glad that I purchased the bike I did and not the 48. Sorry 48 owners...I'm still scratching my head 3 hours later.....

So like I said, what's the deal with this?

I will compliment the 48's in one aspect: they do ride smoother than my Nightster. Obviously this is attributed to the wider front tire and much thicker factory seat. Nonetheless, it is a more comfortable ride.

Same engine, must be something wrong with the 48 so don't judge them all.

I'm trying not to judge them all....I am also aware that both bikes are equipped with identical engines and transmissions. That's why I'm scratching my head.

Did Harley change something from 2007-08 to 2011 in the 1200?

Also, I'm certain nothing is wrong with the 48. Sure I haven't torn the engine down or anything that extreme. Everything runs smoothly, no odd noises. With the stock exhaust you could hear anything that would be amiss. However, it's quiet.

I don't know for sure if anything was changed or not, did they put Cats on the 2011 Sportsters?

Yeah if it's that bad there must be something wrong with it, all stock 1200's should have about the same power.
Break in can make some difference, if it was really babied for the first few hundred miles it can wear the honing off the cylinder walls before the rings seat in fully, that can make an engine seem lazy but shouldn't make the amount of difference your describing.

My 2012 Nightster performs great so it is not a change in model years. That specific bike must be a lemon. I have ridden other 48's and they were right on par with my 1200.

You rode a dud. My 48 in stock form was much faster than a "scooter".

I have not rode a 48, but I do know that it should be on par with your 1200 unless there is something wrong or if you have mods done to your bike such as pipes, AC, tune and so on you might have just forgot what a stock bike runs like.
