Yup, went down on the right side... when the bolts snapped I had no based on my ride side so all my weight in the turn was unsupported between my body and the pavement.
Gonna start compiling those stories, just in case I may need em, and I appreciate you shooting me those links as well.
Thing is- I don't even feel like I am asking for much. I want my bike running and cleaned where the chrome dragged so I can get back to riding. Don't get me wrong, I am pissed it happened, and I could have gotten it bad, but I didn't. I'm not looking for damages, or money for trauma or anything, I just want what I had and to be back on two wheels. Not obviously that doesn't mean anything to the moco, but if need be and forced to go that route, I'll happily spend twice as much as I'd stand to get back in court on principle alone.
If they try to argue the bolts sheared from the wreck, the saving grace may be the location. On the 72, they are houses behind the exhaust, it isn't super easy to reach them. Even when the bike on it's side, it'd rest on the peg which folds, and the exhaust and the brake pedal is off the ground too. The broken piece can't physically drag.
Plus like I said, all things considered the damage really isn't all that bad. Mostly some minor scuffs. Gonna call the dealer after work and see what they say, then I guess call the company directly with a lawyer on standby.
you can but if you trade it you'll get less for it in the shape it's in. i would say report this to the motor company along with the other incidents of it and tell them exactly what happened and what they would have to do to make you happy. after this discussion if they play ball in your favor you could make it known that if you could get full trade in value toward what you want, you would deal with it that way if that is what makes you happy. i'm not really sure you would have much of a case here if you are not injured as a lawyer is gonna cost you and the moco is gonna try to say it snapped off due to you laying it down. any witnesses see that peg fall off before the spill?

That sucks but at times like this we do not think of the best courses of action until after the fact. let us know the dealer-moco attitude on this as it may happen to others and there is strength in numbers.
If going down caused the bolts to shear, the pegs would be damaged. No damage, then bolts sheared first. Csi baby.
And the thing about that too (I'd think), is the hinge would fold and not allow where it's bolted on to be the stress point... And if in fact that stress on the peg caused the bolts to snap, it wouldn't have been such a clean break. The break is suuuper clean and smooth on the ends, both the bolt laced into the threads, and the other end that i picked up off the road.
Sounds like you guys with those year bikes should replace those bolts with some brand new grade 8 hardware. Mine does not mount like that, but if it did, I'd swap them out ASAP.
Probably counterfeit Grade 5 bolts that the Chinese duped Harley into buying. It would be interesting to see a metallurgist report on these bolts.

This is the real cause of the bolt failures that have been found in similar cases on Harleys in the past couple of years. Harley is using imported crap hardware for critical fasteners.
