Default Help!!!! i cant decide

Yesterday i went to Guildford Harley Davidson, tried the Forty-Eight, which is the bike i had my heart set on. Then while i was there i happened across an Iron 883 in candy orange, and really loved how it looked in the orange,now i really can't decide, haven't ridden either yet, as being the idiot i am i forgot my licence. I'm going back tuesday to test ride them both,despite being tall (6ft1) both bikes felt absolutely fine size wise, maybe slightly less room on the Iron but nothing to worry me. I know its all personal preference, but i was just wondering what you guys on here think of the two models, is there any reason to go for one over the other? i really love the Forty-Eight, but that Iron looked fantastic in orange.
Thanks for any advice
Si

iron = 883 with a 3 gallon fuel tank
48= 1200 with a 2 gallon tank

Iron owners are going to say buy the Iron, 48 owners will say buy the 48, they are both nice looking bikes, there are differences between the two styles and so with motor size 883 vs 1200, there will be some who will point out that you can convert the 883 to a 1250 (build) and others who will say just have the 48 tank painted to what you want, and on and on.

I say, test ride both bikes and DO NOT be afraid to turn the throttle FEEL THE POWER!! Then afterwards tell the salesman to leave you alone for a bit and really look hard at both bikes, right out of the box both bikes are sweet looking but only You can ultimately make the decision which bike YOU prefer for yourself. Good Luck..

thanks for the replies guys, ib5150 your post made a lot of good points. i really am finding these two bikes to be hard to seperate, even insurance quotes are coming back at as little as Ł40 difference. i'm hoping that test riding the pair back to back will give me a bit more of an idea. I have a feeling that which ever one i go for,something will always be at the back of my mind telling me i should have bought the other one!!!

Nightster owner here. I'd take the 48 in a second.

48's pretty much an Iron w/1200 motor, crappier seat, larger tire and forward controls...maybe shorter shocks (can't remember). Either way - can't go wrong w/either and you can add 1200-kit & forwards to the Iron later so get the bike you'll enjoy - good luck!

Id choose the 48. If you get tired of the small tank, a tank swap is much cheaper and easier than a engine upgrade. That's just me, though. both are awesome machines IMO.

I don't know about prices in the UK but here in the states you could have the Iron converted to the 1200 before you take delivery for about $2k and retain full warranty. So in essence, for about the same money or slightly less you could have a 1200 Iron or the 48. It comes down to styling really. Do you want the 16 in the front or a 19? Do you prefer the 2 gallon or the 3 gallon tank?

go with the iron. you won't regret it. put a lot of cool stuff on it or have it upgraded to a 1200 for about the same price as the 48. if you don't have it converted at time of purchase ride it until your warranty runs out then convert to 1250 yourself. i can't imagine a 2 gallon tank. 3 gallon is pretty small when riding for a whole day. if your financing cut a year off your loan and have about the same payment but own it much sooner.
