I just spoke to the dealer about this yesterday actually. The dealer will put new cables/lines on if you go with mini-apes. total cost about 800.00 which seems a touch high to me. bars and cables about 370.00 and laber was 400.
Dont Mean To Hijack The Thread Here But, Is It Possible To Get Rid Of The Riser Alltogether On An 04...? Buying One This Week And The Guy Has 16" Apes. Would Rather Have A Setup Like The New 72...
2013 XL1200C...Thinking about putting mini apes on my bike. Would I need longer cables? Just curious what or if there is anything I would need to modify. TIA for your replies.
I have a 2011 Iron and built 8-1/2" mini Z-bars. I was able to use the stock wires and used black zip ties and tied them tight to the bars. I had to get extensions when I ran the wires inside the bars to hide.
So basically this all depends on the total height. You can use stock cables with 10" bars as long as you have 1" risers. It's tight and you have to bend the brake line, but it can be done. If you have a Custom, then you have a 4" tall riser, which makes your total height 14". At this height (anything over 12" total height) , you cannot use the stock cables. I'm currently in the middle of putting on 10" bars on my custom, so I bought a set of ebay 1" risers and a speedo relocation kit. I think the issue everyone who is converting to mini-apes is having is that they're not thinking about the total height. A ton of people on countless threads say "you can use stock cables on 10" apes". Those people have never used the stock Custom riser. I just tried last night, stock cables don't even come close to fitting.

I'll just keep what I have or do it myself before I would pay anything near that price.
thinking of going with a taller handlebar for my 2013 ultra classic. looking for something around 3-4 higher than stock. I loved the height of the stock I had on my Heritage.
