i had a 2008 883 standard, and she ran around town just fine! traded her in on a 2009 nightster, and i have the same problem as you. the 1200 has higher compression and taller gearing and they both contribute to the problem! i'm thinking of going back to 883 gearing, but haven't done it yet. to change the gearing you need the smaller countershaft sprocket and the smaller 883 final belt! cheers from montana
hi there i have an 07 883l which did the same exact thing , i bought a PowerVision tuner and tuned it up with a few runs using autotune and its like a whole different bike , it runs great at all speeds, has more power all around and my mileage is up . do yourself and your bike a favor and get a PV and tune it up.
I have the same problem as the OP and others here...since I'm a welder and not a mechanic, I thought this was not 'normal'
but like others posted, I need to get tuner...the XIED's sounds nice but I might ad an aftermarket A/C to go with my V&H Shortshots, I might need the extra options of a tuner
That's not lugging .....going 30 in 5th gear jumping on the throttle and wondering why your bike is not speeding up as it makes sone sick rattle noises is lugging.
The bike should be able to run at low speeds without acting like a pissed off bull in a rodeo.
Well I would have no idea about a bike bucking like that. I think if mine did that I wouldn't be riding it until I bought a new tuner or had it at the dealer to fix it. the op stated that his does this in 1st & 2nd gear below 20-25 mph. It is only my opinion, but 20 mph in 2nd I would consider lugging my bike. to each his own. ride em how you like. They will run much smoother above 2800 rpm, I can however ride at just about stalling mine in first and it never reminded of a bull.

The thundermax is very expensive but I have been very impressed with mine since I put it on. I would like to try a powervision but have no reason to replace the thundermax. I think the investment into either is a very good idea.
